Qualifications and Criteria for Volunteer Teachers 2025  

The Government through the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government has allowed various Councils to recruit teachers on a voluntary basis but with special remuneration. A volunteer teacher in Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, and Community Development Schools is required to have the following qualifications; 

 ✓Be a Tanzanian citizen aged 18 years and above.  

✓Be a graduate who has successfully completed a teaching qualification from a college recognized by the Government. 

 ✓Be a holder of genuine academic and professional certificates.  

 ✓Be a guarantor who is a public servant or a local government/ward leader or a religious leader.  

 ✓Be a person who has never been convicted of a criminal offence or has a criminal case.  

 ✓Be of acceptable character and conduct by the community. The procedure for recruiting volunteer teachers is as follows: 

 ✓School/College committees determine the actual needs of teachers.  

✓Priority should be given to Applicants who have previously been involved with the relevant School/College.

Applicants from areas surrounding the School/College.

Placing advertisements on
Council, Ward, School, and College Notice Boards.
✓Media such as Radio, Social Media, and Television.
✓Applicants to submit Applications to, the Council Director or College Principal, with full address and contact details (phone numbers/email).

✓Application Analysis, School/College Committees to participate fully in analyzing applications.

✓List of selected teachers to be announced on notice boards and media.

Selected teachers to be notified by letter.

✓Appointment Letters may be revoked before signing Contracts if the Government deems it necessary.
