Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. AGA has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The purpose of the role is to contribute as a member of the Engineering team by delivering planned departmental performance safely, with zero injuries, and at the lowest practical unit cost. The Technician is responsible for ensuring tyre maintenance is carried out safely, correctly, and efficiently, in compliance with company standards and approved work instructions. The role aims to enhance tyre maintenance efficiency, promote cost-effectiveness, and ensure equipment availability through high-quality execution of tyre management tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of Secondary School Education.
  • Certified in OTR Tyre Management Level 3 and Level 4 from a recognized and approved Tyre Management Training Institute.
  • The incumbent must have valid Tanzanian driving license.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A Minimum of 3 years’ experience in OTR tyre maintenance and management within the mining industry.
  • At least 2 years’ hands-on experience with Total Tyre Control (TTC) software for tyre performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Proven experience in evaluating and interpreting TKPH studies for tyre selection and application.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in OTR tyre fitting, repair, and re-grooving using correct and safe tools and equipment
  • Strong understanding of tyre sizes, applications, and failure causes, with the ability to engage effectively with tyre manufacturers and clients
  • Skilled in TKPH evaluation and application for tyre selection and performance monitoring
  • Familiar with Total Tyre Control (TTC) software and tyre data management
  • Knowledgeable in safe work procedures, hazard identification, and safety performance standards
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and the ability to work independently under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to guide and coordinate others
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Highly motivated, honest, and open-minded
  • Flexible and willing to work in remote locations or extended hours when required
  • Fast learner, adaptable to new methods, technologies, and work environments

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the tyre services team.
  • Participate in daily and weekly site safety meetings; raise and follow up on safety issues.
  • Ensure safe work procedures are consistently followed during all tyre-related tasks.
  • Assess site conditions to confirm tyre fitting work can be performed safely; escalate any unsafe areas.
  • Respond proactively to equipment breakdowns in the field and immediately report feedback to the supervisor.
  • Conduct equipment checks and calibrations as per GGML Standard Work procedures
  • Fit and remove wheels from all types of vehicles in accordance with GGML procedures.
  • Mount and dismount all tyre and rim assemblies following GGML Standard Work Procedures.
  • Perform tyre and tube repairs according to company standards.
  • Operate forklifts and tyre-handling equipment in line with safety protocols and GGML procedures.
