To ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services, it is imperative that healthcare workers continuously update their knowledge and skills. Significant developments have been recorded in the health sector in Zanzibar including introduction of digital health approaches, new diagnostic modalities and diseases treatment approaches, emerging diseases, as well as the introduction of super specialized care. Furthermore, there is diversity in the pre-service trainings across all health carders which necessitates the harmonization of understanding and practices to ensure systemic service delivery approaches. Various forms of in-service medical education exist in Zanzibar, however there is no CPD framework. The development of this framework is critical in addressing the unique demands and complexities of the Zanzibar healthcare context and foster a culture of self-driven lifelong learning among healthcare workers. The framework will contribute in improving professional competencies and meeting the dynamic needs of both patients and the healthcare system at large.

CPD ensures healthcare professionals are informed about the latest evidence-based practices, guidelines, and innovations in medical technologies and treatments. Regular training and education improve knowledge and clinical skills, leading to better patient outcomes and higher standards of care. The initiative will contribute to impactful changes on other quality improvement endeavors such as mentorship, client feedback, and supportive supervision and bridge a crucial gap between the renewal of licenses for practicing healthcare professionals, ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and linkage with the ongoing journey of carrier development and progression.
